The Big Top
I was always an avid reader of the Famous Five books, I was an Enid Blyton fan and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I wanted the adventures they had, I wanted an island of my own, I wanted to catch the baddies. I wanted to go to Malory Towers, to swim in the outdoor pool, to have midnight feasts. I wanted to solve mysteries with Fatty and the Find-Outers, I wanted to outwit the bungling policeman..........
Good always overcame bad, the criminals were always caught, the sun shone, there were lashings of ginger beer and life was exciting and full of adventure. There was an adventure on an island, an adventure in school, a caravan, on a hike, on a moor.....and of course in a circus. I've always tried to hold on to that romanticised notion of a circus. I wanted to run away and live an exciting life performing in a circus. In fact I went on a circus workshop once and learnt to walk a tightrope. I learnt to juggle balls and clubs and I even bought a unicycle. I know that it is nothing like an Enid Blyton book, I just like the whole idea and so I am always drawn to a circus.
We were working at the AJ Bell Stadium and there was a circus in the car park. I nipped out on my break as I hoped to see a clown, or an elephant or someone in sparkly sequins, or anyone really. It seems we can't just lift up a tent peg and sneak into the big top, we can't even get near the big top....you had to pay at a caravan before being let through barrier....sigh!
Good grief, I waffle on, don't I..............
