Hostile ground

I spent a very hot and sticky day walking round a brownfield site in Suffolk. One corner had been used for recycling of aggregates, including glass, resulting in huge dunes of mixed chipped glass and sand, which had a strange greenish hue from a distance. Despite the hostile appearance of the substrate, it was growing a fine crop of Canadian Fleabane, with a scatter of Opium Poppy for a splash of colour.
