THE SPEED WALKERS
In the large canteen where all the Alternative Olympic Games competitors gather for their meals one can see a strange phenomenon to happen at breakfast, lunch and dinnertime. Something that I have never seen in the country where I come from.
The speed walkers come running through the doors, and a loud cry is heard, and with a bit of effort I can hear what their captain shouts.
Aanvallen....aanvallen!!
I know now that this a dutch verb used in the soccer sport scene, and it means: attack!
Then they all fall upon the food and for the next half hour or so one can observe how hungry they must have been as they simply sit upon their food and munch and munch till all is devoured. Each one of them considers only what is before him or her, and if one has to climb upon another fellow sportswo/man, it becomes obvious that no one cares at all about their uncivilised behaviour.
They are here to win the race and they will do anything to get there.
I have asked one of them if they also reserve time for mental practice, and I got the impression that they had never had heared of such a thing.
My curiosity has grown enormously and when I wished them luck I promised to watch their contest next week.
I consider this capture also apt for the Derelict Sunday Challenge, hosted by JanetHH and the theme is beauty. I find the decayed plant, although one can hardly see it, beautiful.
Next Sunday and all the other Sundays in August I will host this challenge. I have thought about the theme thing but till now I did not find one that I myself would like to apply.
I show another picture of the munching lot.
