Fire!....Evening Update
Just when I thought here was nothing special to shoot today, a friend called and asked if we were close to "the fire". What fire? So we drove up to the top of the hill and spotted this huge blaze that just blew up. It's 2 canyons over in Roaring Lion Canyon, so we should be OK, but the wind is kicking up. This picture shows it at about 700 acres and it's growing quickly. We called 2 artist friends who live in that canyon and offered help, the truck and trailer, but they said the sheriff and fire guys will not let us in. They were told to evacuate and they are packing their art and computers and getting the hell out. Right now on the news, it has grown to over 1200 acres and is out of control.
So now, we wait.
Update: I've posted a picture taken about an hour ago and the fire has topped the ridges on both sides and is heading down the mountain and moving slowly north. It's hit the bottom trees and several homes are burnt to the ground; including my friends' houses. You might be able to see the 2 teeny helicopters in LARGE. I have another in EXTRA. We're going back out when it gets darker to see it. There are some flames in the first one. these were taken in town, so it's very close to Hamilton. My house is about 6 to 7 miles from it, but we feel safe. :-)
