Voodoo

I didn't take a single photo today - rain all day - so I made a photo with images from yesterday and a day or two ago. An apt image in that I have just finished reading The Poisonwood Bible, with descriptions of the extraordinary exploitation of the Congo, from the time it was a company, under the directorship of King Leopold of Belgium, with child rubber plantation workers having hands knocked off for minor misbehaviour, and an estimated 10 million dead, to Mobuto, who amassed a fortune estimated at 15 billion, about the same as the countries enormous debt, while most state workers were paid nothing - and this with the blessings of the U.K. and USA. And before this the slave trade... I highly recommend this book, and also 'Of Water and the Spirit' by Malidoma Patrice Some.
