U-Bahn München: 76/100 Petuelring

Munich underground: 76/100 Petuelring

Today's entry of my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series is Petuelring underground station. It was opened in May 1972, just days before the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. It is part of the orange Olympic U3 line and has a lot of common design features with the stops at Olympiazentrum and Bonner Platz, the other stations of the Olympic extension. The distinguishing feature of Petuelring station are the golden highlighted relievos on the walls.

Due to the wide granite-faced pillars and the massive staircase in the center of the platform the station appears rather dark and cramped.

On top of the station is the northern terminal loop of tram 27.

The billboards feature tongue-in-cheek advertisement for the Munich zoo Hellabrunn.
