Sprint relays
Calgary University - Canadian Sprint Orienteering Championships. After the first sprint race ( where I did appallingly and visited the wrong checkpoint - so was disqualified) there was a relay event for teams of 4. Sons M&R decided it would be more fun for them to run twice each rather than enter a non-descript family team with an ailing father and a terribly slow Mother who can't be trusted to visit the correct checkpoints.
M came in 2nd after his first run and handed over to R who over took the person in front and came in 1st. He handed over to M again who ran round still in the lead and handed back to R. This is M, in green bending down to pick up the map for leg 4 and hand it to R, with all the spectators cheering them because the commentator had got wind of what was going on and gave them lots of publicity. R ran round again and came in first. The rules had specified teams of 4 with 2 girls and 2 boys but there were so many ad hoc teams that the organisers awarded fun prizes for ad hoc categories . R&M won an award for being 1st overall and being the 1st ad hoc team.
It was very exciting, the boys were congratulated all round and I just basked in the glory of being their mother.
