Horses, Horses, Horses, Horses

I have been reading "Just Kids", Patti Smith's excellent autobiography of her years in New York with Robert Mapplethorpe. Two of my artistic heroes, struggling together to make it as artists, driven by their determination that they would because they could. Towards the close of the book, she records her first album - Horses - for many, including me, a truly seminal work. As seminal as Robert Mapplethorpe's incredible photographs.

So, holding that as context, we drove today to near the top of Mount Cucco, which, at 5,000 feet, dominates the view from the front of La Capella. What I did not expect to find there was a herd of horses, running wild not far below the peak. They were beautiful creatures, so I shall close with a few lines from Patti Smith's Horses.

"Suddenly, Johnny gets a feeling
He's been surrounded by
Horses, horses, horses, horses
Comin' in in all directions
White, shining, silver studs
With their nose in flames
He saw horses, horses, horses, horses
Horses, horses, horses, horses"
