Vestmannaeyjar

Today we took our guests to visit Vestmannaeyjar where we went to the museum for the volcanic eruption of 1973. It is a great museum built around one of the houses that had been buried under 15 meters of tephra. When it was dug up it was nearly intact, but plastic things had melted.
The black post in this photo shows how deep the layer of volcanic ash was when the eruption ended.
