Bellingham in Bloom

This morning we drove to Newcastle to see the hand surgeon and we were driving home about 5 minutes before Mum's appointment time!  Her surgeon doesn't make you feel rushed, but he doesn't waste a moment in the clinic or in the operating theatre.

He did spend quite a few minutes looking at her right hand to work out why the operation has not been completely successful. He thinks that one of the tendons is catching on an osteophyte (small bony protruberance) and this is making it jump painfully when the finger is fully flexed. He has suggested a way for Mum to hold her fingers to stop this happening as often. Surgery is on the cards, but he has given Mum a break of 4 months to see how she recovers.

That's a sensible decision that we like.

I decided to to to Bellingham for lunch in the lovely Carriages tearooms. (They are in a real railway carriage outside the Heritage Centre.) We then went to see the photographic exhibition which has been put on to coincide with Bellingham in Bloom. The judging was today and we saw three people with clipboards whom we suspect were the judges.

Three of us have images in the exhibition. You will probably recognise mine on the right of the image, next to our banner that goes up wherever we have an exhibition.

Now it's time to put our feet up and rest before the weekend!
