Diary of an Edinburgher

Cake!

I had a very restless night - just could not get comfy and had to keep moving every five minutes. But I eventually had a good sleep from about 5.30 am when Archie joined me and lay on his back. I awoke about 9 am with his wee nose pressed into my cheek.

JR took Archie up the Hill, while I wandered up to the chemist for more drugs, using my sticks when out and about. I don't use them around the house though, but now I can actually look around at the same time as walking.

Elizabeth's mum and dad came to visit. We've been saying hello to each other since we moved here, so it was about time! Archie visits their house after his walks, so they're very fond of him too. They've lived here for many decades, so it was good to hear some of their stories.

Elizabeth arrived from work to join us for a very yummy lemony layer cake. Archie went crazy to see her. She then took him for a bonus walk to the Links. Another good day in the life of Archie. He certainly has a lot of 'em.

The Olympics start today! How exciting - I love all that wall to wall sport. During the last Olympics we were house swapping in Noosa, Queensland, so I only saw snippets every morning. I intend to make up for that this time.

The Edinburgh Festival and Fringe is also under way - though I'm not sure I'll be seeing much of it this year. The city’s combined festival offering attracts a total of 4.5 million people a year. This is similar to the FIFA World Cup and behind only the Olympic Games – both of which take place every four years. It's a biggie!

Elizabeth sent this sweet shot during their walk, and I rather liked it.
