Away to Peebleshire with wee brother to look some bulling heifers this morning . Like the job, so agreed a price and will go back another day and pick the 15 we want.
My 2 last pre 96 cows away today. 273 decided not to wake up this morning and 281 was losing condition so got the knackers in for both. Since the BSE scare in 1996 any cattle born before August 1996 were banned from the food chain and as such became valueless so we kept these 2 breeding long past the usual sell by date .
Nature has a way of filling gaps because no sooner had the knackers been in than 604 had to come in and be calved. She went down with milk fever but got the vet to give her IV calcium and by tonight she is back on her feet
