Morning ablutions
Came across this family on the banks of the River Avon today, two mute swans and their cygnets across. Not at all unusual this time of year, but resting and taking the sun alongside a busy public thoroughfare is perhaps a trifle remarkable.
These cygnets beginning to sport their grey plumage indicates they are about eight weeks old, and they’ll probably remain together as a family for another six months, or longer., and maybe through to next spring.
When I spotted them the parents appeared to be standing guard, keeping a watchful eye over their brood, while the cygnets themselves appeared to be enjoying the early morning sunshine, and doing nothing more energetic than preening themselves.
What I thought quite remarkable was the fact they appeared to take little notice of me leaning over the riverside wall where the river passes through a busy city centre.
They clearly realised that a guy with his iPhone camera was not a threat to their early morning ablution
