We Were There

I was lucky enough to get two tickets for West Ham's Betway Cup game at their new home, The London Stadium, Elizabeth Park, otherwise known as the Olympic Stadium and, wow, it is very impressive. Since Andy is currently mountain biking in the French Alps with four mates I invited a friend and life-long West Ham fan, Terry. He was made up, as they say.

After the entertaining official opening ceremony, the 53,000+ supporters we were hoping for a better result but Juventus ran-out 3-2 winners with a late goal sealing the victory. It was certainly a different experience to the The Boleyn Ground but the extra capacity was needed if the club is to progress in very competitive Premier League company.

Incidentally, for the first time I used one of these park-on-your-drive schemes where you rent someone's parking space for the day. It was very straight-forward to book, reasonably priced, secure and just 15 minutes walk from the stadium. I recommend.

It's a pity the traffic through the centre of London was slow going on the way home, despite it being a Sunday. We saw many of the tourist attractions along the way though :)

Finally, I took this panorama with an iPhone so not the best quality but it does capture the scale of the place.
