The Log in the Lake
Monday and The walkin is easy…..
The B Team went to Cromwell and walked around Lake Dunstan in wonderful light. 8Km with a stop afterwards at a coffee shop in “Old Cromwell” which is the bit that didn’t get drowned…read on.
Lake Dunstan is artificial and was the product of the last large scale hydro project in NZ when a large dam was built at Clyde downstream with the lake filling in 1993.
The original town centre was drowned under the rising waters but the town stands today as a thriving major centre with a spectacular lake for water activities and we have a totally renewable power source for the future built when no one was even thinking about renewable sources of anything. New Zealand’s electricity is largely renewable with only a tiny bit of coal used to manage peaks but this will be completely gone soon having been replaced with wind. My favourite spot is in front of a gas fire in the lounge which is very badly designed and projects very little heat out at dog level. Engineers have a lot to answer for.
Sigh
