Bowood 2016 #30 (Tuesday 2nd August 2016)
Completing a hat-trick of swan family pictures, these are the ones on Bowood Lake where the parents are bringing up five cygnets. Four, if not five, are in the picture, but you may need to go Large to make them out.
I haven't been back to the House and Gardens for a couple of weeks but I did the footpath walk from Pillars Lodge in Mile Elm up to the Lake (see second Extra, with House) to see them. They were on the far side so this is as close as I could get to them (in fact I daringly walked to the edge of a wooden anglers' pontoon to take it!).
On the footpath I'd photographed some thistle-like plant preparing to disperse its seeds which I would have blipped had I not found the swans (see first Extra).
The cob swan is sometimes to be seen at the top end of the Lake inside the Grounds but on this occasion he was at the bottom end near the Palladian bridge, gliding near to two anglers that were on opposite sides of the water, leaving Mum in charge of the brood.
As usual I saw a couple of grey herons and a red kite.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Traffic - Coloured Rain (recorded April-November 1967)
As Jim Capaldi was born on this day in 1944 it seemed appropriate to choose this for my psychedelic song series. He died on 28 January 2005. It was on the B-side of Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush in November 1967 (both songs appeared in the film of that name) and appeared on the album Mr Fantasy the following month. It was written by Traffic members Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood and Chris Wood.
