Santos Dumont

Today's Blip is of a birthday card that arrived today, showing vintage aircraft, and reminded me of the Brazilian aviator, Santos Dumont.......who 'appeared' in the Opening Ceremony of the Rio Olympics, at the weekend.
The Santos Dumont airport serves Rio and has always seemed, to me, to be rather a challenge for the pilots, who on landing and taking off, have to avoid the Sugar Loaf Mountain on one side, and the Rio-Niteroi Bridge that spans the Guanabara Bay, on the other!.....and ....it's a short runway... with the waters of the Bay awaiting any plane that takes too long with its manoeuvres!
