Laivasilta, Loviisa
Today we had a funny coincidence. Facebook told us that an old workmate of ours was having his birthday today. Hubby noticed that he lives in Loviisa (the very same small town we are currently staying in). I send him a message through Facebook and we agreed to have coffees in Laivasilta this evening. We hadn't seen him for about 10 years. It was great to catch up!
Laivasilta (=ship bridge) where this picture is also from was built for the shops who came to get salt from Loviisa. Custom bridge is bit further away. It's was built the same time. Loviisa was a border town at that time 1745. Action in Laivasilta was the same for about 100 years (selling salt). After that it was the place to buy and sell fish. First coffee shops came to the area in the beginning of 1900.
Today it's the place for summer action in Loviisa. There's guest harbor, restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops, maritime museum and a dance / theater hall.
