Hallelujah
I fancied a bit of WFH but was summoned in to work. So, being professional to the last, I decided I'd go in jeans and a t-shirt. Whoah, yes indeed. But more. Slip on shoes... with no socks. Get that.
So it was straight from work to see this eagerly anticipated sing-along-with-Lenny-Cohen fringe show. Well, not quite straight - the Bow Bar got in the way.
Look, I could meanly critique it - he shouted too much, that-was-Tom-Waits-not-Cohen, the band wanted to play 'rawk', there wasn't enough light and shade, it was too heavy handed, the anecdotes were a bit commonplace... but actually, once I'd settled with all that, I actually did really enjoy it.
And of course, So Long Marianne - the Cohen letter to Marianne Ihlen has been so much in the news after she died recently at the age of 81. Such a lovely thing that I feel the need to record it here so I can hopefully look back on it.
Well Marianne it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine.
And you know that I’ve always loved you for your beauty and your wisdom, but I don’t need to say anything more about that because you know all about that. But now, I just want to wish you a very good journey. Goodbye old friend. Endless love, see you down the road.
