La Couarde

Up nice and early in an attempt to make sure that there were bikes left for rental when we arrived at the Ile de Re (having failed to reserve any online) and with our planned stopover at Nantes dutifully rescheduled to the return leg, we were even queueing up outside the Lidl next door to the hotel when it opened to get our breakfast croissants,  which Tom pronounced as “tragic.” Luckily the first bike place we hit after checking into our cabin and speed-walking over to Le Bois Plage had four traditional ‘sit up and beg’ style bikes waiting just for us so we celebrated by cycling posthaste over to La Couarde for ice creams.
