Sundew

This is the commonly named Sundew or Drosera, which is native to every continent except Antarctica.  It is a carnivorous plant, taking all its nutrition from above.  The root system serves only to anchor this plant to the soil, which is inevitably nutrient poor. This is tuberous sundew, of which there are 50 species in Australia. They have glandular tentacles, topped with sticky secretions which attract then trap their prey which then dies within 15 minutes of entrapment.  Looks far more benign and attractive than it sounds, doesn't it? This is a "cheat" Blip, because I took it on Wednesday when out walking with our group, but felt it might be of interest.  If I have broken a Blip rule please tell me and I will remove it. (but have look first!)
