Squiggly Bridge, Glasgow & padlocks = love?

Think I lucked out on the weather today as went on a mammoth walk this morning and the thunder storm didn't start til after I'd got home.

While walking across the squiggly bridge (yes that's what we like to call it) I noticed some padlocks chained to the railings. On closer inspection they seem to be eternal love tokens. I've heard of this in other European cities but Glasgow? Romantic?
