Thursday night into Friday morning developed into one heck of a lightning storm. At Como the bins overflowed with discarded umbrellas. Roof tiles and glazing lay smashed along the roads. Trees lay down uprooted. Perhaps 25 miles to the east, at Bergamo, a Boeing 737-400 cargo plane flying from Paris had slid off the runway into a busy road.
