Celebrating Scaffolding

The foolishness of not having booked accommodation before we came means that where we’re staying is fairly random. Thus it was that we woke this morning near Birnam Wood (of which one oak is left, and we didn’t go to Dunsinane to find the rest) and got to spend the morning in Dunkeld. In the derelict part of Dunkeld Cathedral I spotted a poster after my own heart headed ‘Celebrating Scaffolding’ I am not alone!

At the nearby Hermitage, where we went to see the fast-running river and waterfall, we were alarmed to find two fire engines and a trailerful of red rafts in the car park. Worries were assuaged though, when we came across a cheerful bunch of fire-fighters sitting down for a picnic packed lunch, having slung multi-coloured ropes across the river in a training exercise.

More falls at the Linn of Dee where a bridge divides the landscape. On one side purple heather comes right down to the edge of the peaty water; on the other is a wood where the water tumbles over rocks. A beautiful place.

Then more random accommodation in Tomintoul, much more attractive than the barracks that its grid layout makes it seem on a map.
