Sunday morning.
Waiting for the incoming tide. The fishermen are hoping to catch Flukes, the local name for Flounders or Flatfish.
These are remarkable creatures. They start life looking like other small fish. But soon they begin to lean over and then their left eye migrates so as to give them two eyes on the right hand side. From then on they swim on their side with both eyes facing upwards.
Moreover when they lay flat on the sand or mud they can change their colour to match their surroundings and they can bury themselves in the mud waiting for small prey to float past.
This has given rise to another way of catching them: trampling. Walking in the shallows in bare feet. And when you tread on one stabbing it with a toasting fork. But be careful.
