Sri Lanka Day One

Dambulla

In a slightly different approach to holidays we have had in the past, the Sri Lankan tour guide company we booked through organised a week long tour of the best Sri Lanka has to offer by providing a driver for the entire week!

After being picked up at Colombo airport by our tour guide, we got straight underway on the 4 hour drive to Amaya Lake in Dambulla. The first thing that hits you about Sri Lanka is the greenery. It is absolutely beautiful and like nothing you have seen before; so rich, dense and vibrant. Coming from Muscat, with its wall to wall beige-ness, the greenery of Sri Lanka mesmerised me for the entire week.

The first part of the tour was two days at Amaya Lake - what scenery! Our accommodation comprised of a private chalet in a beautiful nature complex, surrounded by trees, plants, monkeys, squirrels, bugs, and of course the lake. Later on the first evening, thousands of lanterns were lit along the grounds whilst we sipped wine and listened to a traditional flute player perched in the trees.
