Caldera de Bandama
After yesterday's water sports activities which we thought would take about an hour but ended up taking nearly 4 hours - with most of that time spent sitting in the baking sun on a boat waiting for your turn to go on the relevant activity, Luke woke up this morning feeling rotten which looks like a touch of sunstroke, and Adam, who has had a cold and a cough felt even worse. So we decided to just go out for a few hours this morning and to spend the rest of the day relaxing.
We went off to see the volcanic crater, named Caldera de Bandama. It is one of the largest extinct craters on the island, 200m deep and 1km in diameter. In the fertile surrounding valleys there are many vineyards and palm groves. On the way back to the hotel we stopped off at the town of Teror to visit their weekly market (extra photo). It was quite busy as the market attracts many locals to buy the cheese and excellent speciality sausage that comes from the area. Other than that, they had the usual junk that looks like it has fallen off the back of a boat from China.
We spent the afternoon at the hotel relaxing. I caught up on blip journals while Luke and Adam both had an afternoon sleep. Gavin went to the boat to try and repair something that broke on their voyage over here.
I am very frustrated that we cannot watch any of the Olympics on TV here, other than BBC world news it is all Spanish programs and none of them seem to be showing the Olympics. Crikey, we are now up to 32 medals, that is amazing! I would like to see Usain Bolt run tomorrow, maybe I can watch it on my BBC sports app but the wifi is very weak here and does not download videos properly.
