Deer rears...

Our second long day of veteran tree surveying, but at least today it didn't rain. We covered a huge area of the park, and came across several herds of red and fallow deer. When we visited in July, the red deer were in two separate herds - with the females and young in the Old Deer Park and the males elswhere. Today there were stags, hinds and fawns in this mixed herd.

Intially the deer were interested in us, watching quietly from a distance, but they eventually decided that the antics of tree surveyors were too strange and scary and headed off synchronously to the nearest area of cover.
