Uncle simon

Today was about uncle Simon. Uncle Simon and the six other fabulous but insane musicians he formed a punk band with 15 ish years ago. They were brilliant "in their day". Quite well known on the local music scene. Trumpets, sax, trombone and a dancing pantomime pony. Pony Club were excellent. They regulatory performed at scarboroughs then annual free music festival, Soundwave. They've not played together in 10years. One of them has a career writing songs for such as Eurovision stars, one plays in many bands. Most haven't played since. Tonight they reunited (with some rehearsal!) for the Soundwave revival.

The day started with a visit to some friends before we battled our way to Scarborough seafront (always traumatic at high season). We met uncle Simon and several of the band & wags with granny and grandad on the beach. G&G took us for harbour bar ice cream as our traffic wranglings meant we'd missed the trip and the six year old was unimpressed.

By the time we got home, it was time to settle her down for some quiet time to get her through the evening ahead.

She was sporting the band shirt, was armed with her ear defenders and was a very excited, loyal Pony club mini fan. I am very thrilled she got to see them. They are quite a sight to behold. And did fantastically. She was spell bound the entire time despite it being loud and a very new situation to her. First punk gig. A new experience for Katie!
