Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park, Colintraive
Day 15
A gem of a place, a photographer's paradise. This outdoor gallery only opened on 23 June 2012, situated in the grounds of of Caol Ruadh House (meaning "red house on the narrows) on the Kyles of Bute. I have chosen this shot, to show just how close it is to the Colintravie/Rhubodach ferry.
I first read about it here, on Blipfoto, journal entries by Feorlean who helped to open it, and then snapper who visited in early July.
This shot shows two works, the cormorant which is called "Drying Day" by Angela Hunter and "Tide flow - Time flow" by Rob Mulholland. Rob's piece should have two additional stainless steel sections, but these were damaged in a severe storm last Wednesday, and have been removed temporarily for repair. One of the figures is mirrored on both sides, so sailors can enjoy the experience too. I have also seen Rob's work in a woodland setting near the David Marshall Lodge above Aberfoyle.
The lady who has set up the park is just lovely, and very happy to talk about the project. I have so many photographs, I found it difficult to chose just one. It's great to see Scottish artists being given this opportunity to exhibit. The park is about 80 miles from Glasgow, but well worth the visit.
To our delight, as we drove up the east side of Loch Fyne, we heard on the radio that the landslip at The Rest and Be Thankful had just been cleared. We were one of the first cars through the pass. We could see the huge boulders at the side of the road which were washed down the hillside by the torrential rain on Wednesday.
