The grasshopper and the crow
Dear Diary,
Today's post sounds a bit like an Aesop tale. This time of year the grasshoppers come back and so do the crows. Of course, the crows are always here but in mid-August they walk about the field feasting on the grasshoppers. This grasshopper sat awhile on the feeding table seemingly staring into the abyss. The crickets are back too and they are wonderful to hear. Last night when I went out to the garden the air was full of dragonflies! Now, that is a bit unusual at this time of year but then again this is an unusual year all around.
I've added a photo of Edgar Allen Crow gazing intently into the grass. I remember an old nursery rhyme about seeing crows...
One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret,
Never to be told.
Eight for a wish,
Nine for a kiss,
Ten for a bird,
You must not miss.
Edgar was accompanied by five fellow crows. Maybe I should go out today and buy a lottery ticket!
