A dull day
Gavin and Luke spent all morning working on the boat with two other crew members who have come out from London - there is a problem with the rigging which has to get sorted before the start of the race in November. By lunchtime they gave up as it is going to need professional riggers to sort out the problem. There are other things to fix and sort so the other crew members are spending a few days here to attend to them, so it was not a wasted journey for them. Amazing how many things wear and break down on a long sea going voyage!
I had a lazy morning at the hotel. The weather was dull with low cloud and quite hazy. It seems this is a common weather pattern in the north, and the moment you drive 10km south the clouds lift and it is bright sunshine again. However, despite that, I do prefer the north to the south as it seems more authentic and not so touristy. Some places in the south have mass purpose built holiday accommodation which I prefer to avoid. The island is small enough that one can easily drive to the south to enjoy the sunny beaches there or other beautiful spots.
In the afternoon Gavin and I went for a drive along the north coast, and I liked this little coastal town which reminds me of the Cinque Terre area in Italy. I have also included an extra of the beach near this town. Unfortunately I do not know the name of this town, but it is in the Moya district.
It is time to say goodbye to Gran Canaria. Early tomorrow morning we fly to Barcelona for a couple of nights before going home. We only planned to spend a week here but BA (or more accurately, their alliance partner Iberia Express) do not have direct flights back to London every day of the week - and we always use BA due to airmiles. As next direct flight back to London is only on Saturday, we are going to Barcelona tomorrow as BA do fly to Barcelona (and Madrid) every day of the week, and we did not plan to spend 10 days here.
