Day One!

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela
"He who opens a school door, closes a prison." Victor Hugo

Emotional day. Early in the morning, on 'Today', I heard an interview with a fourteen year old boy in the Calais camp. He had travelled, without his parents, through many countries, in a bid for freedom and safety. Now he hoped to get to Britain. Asked why, he replied that he wanted to get a good education. He spoke in almost perfect English. He hoped to become a Human Rights lawyer.

A couple of hours later Finn started on his own journey -
Primary 1. All of the family, mum and dad, brother, grannies, grandads, uncles and aunts and cousins willing him to enjoy the experience. And he did. No traumas - just an easy transition to the next stage. And the highlight was the big biscuit he'd bought at break!
