Snow globe
It's only been five days since my last snowflake blip, but these don't happen that often...
The light snow this morning produced some perfect individual flakes...usually I try to get as close as I can to a single flake...then I found this tiny group and loved that each one was visibly different and the broken one resembled a butterfly...
Edit:
~SooB put a wonderful link in her comment. Please check it out for the most amazing microscopic captures of snowflakes. This man is my snowflake-capturing idol.
This is also incredible.
Shooting and processing info:
- flakes caught on a clear sheet of glass that was left out
- 21mm extension tube on the 50 mm lens
- glass brightly lit from underneath with a camping headlamp
- sheet of vellum between glass and light to diffuse the beam
- camera handheld, manual focus, lens right up against the glass
- shooting outside for about one minute at a time
- processing: crop, some cleaning of the glass with the healing brush
