Dressage at the Olympics.
Seeing shapes and lines
An instinct for proportion
Absorbed in painting
Keira is seven and today she drew then painted this fabulous picture of a rider and horse in the dressage event at Rio. Her class is busy practicing a movement routine that will represent the movement of horses. Their teacher tells me it has been a challenge for lots of the children learning to gallop, skip and trot. This is all part of an item for the school show which is about the Olympic Games. Each age group of children will show a different sport. When Keira's class came to me for art I gave them a photo of a rider and horse which they could use to draw from and then paint. They were all very proud of their efforts because they think horses are hard to draw. Having the photo to refer to helps a lot. I was impressed with Keira's effort. The hooves do look like they are dancing over the sand in the dressage ring. The rider is sitting very straight and seems to be controlling the horse well.
