Go Compare . . .
Real Fuzzy Water
My ‘Big Stopper’ turned up this afternoon, and you just have to play with it, don’t you?!
Being dull and overcast with a hint of drizzle is not the best weather for photography, but undaunted I took a couple of trial comparison shots out of our front window and gave them 10/10, then what else to compare with but our ‘waterfall feature’ in the back garden. On opening the patio doors guess what – it was now raining! Still undaunted the tripod got stood inside the doors, and with the 18-270 at full stretch I got a good set of comparisons, some enhanced with our portable Cree flood light, but in the end I decided to blip two consecutive shots with just the available natural light.
On Monday my main concern with choosing a ND Ten Stop filter was colour cast, not helped by various ‘professional’ reviews contradicting each other. I finally took a chance on the Amazon review system (not normally the most reliable) and decided that 142x5* reviews against 16x4*, 2x3* with no 2* or 1* reviews was a good bet – and it was.
As you can see there is little noticeable difference between the shots, and the ten stop fuzzy water (on the right) is reasonably pleasing, but that’s the subject matter – to be ‘improved’ on (maybe . . . ).
For the record:
Left hand image – 1/30th sec at f6.3
Right Hand Image – 25 sec at f6.3
And for the techie (or two):
The Canon 7D (on P setting, 100 ISO) handled the exposure completely by itself, both images being SOOC. The focus was manual.
