What Do I See

On The Way Home

From our holiday we stopped off at some old friends on mine, Mick and Jan.

I worked with Mick in the early 2000's at the long since gone Arrows F1 team. Mick was a technician in R&D and I was a designer there. Back then I still had the vaguest of capability to play a guitar (and I mean really vague...) and Mick being a very skilled technician had taken on the idea of building his own guitar. Another friend of his at work Maurice, had made a few of his own and gave him some advice, I helped him out with a bit of internet research and some drawings, and he created a great (if somewhat heavy) first guitar. Pretty much all of it. He made the body, the neck, fretboard, cut the frets, the wiring and setting up. A real achievement.

Since then Mick went on to work elsewhere, then retired, and has gone on to make a few more guitars. Here he is with a telecaster style guitar of his own creation, this time with a neck rescued from another guitar that needed a lot of work to put right, hand stained woodwork on the body, and really nicely finished.

He also showed me a beautiful creation, a bit PRS like, with a bit of shape, all hand shaped and scraped to carve the body and again, another hand built neck. An amazing tone and sound from this through his Marshall stack. Have a look at the extras to see this guitar.

It was lovely to see Mick and Jan, something we haven't done for a couple of years now, if not more.
