I took the Sony off charge again on Tuesday night because it was getting frighteningly hot and anyway, no charging lights were showing. I retried again on Wednesday morning and a recharging light showed, so I tip-toed away and let it get on with it. Later, when the charging light had gone out I unplugged it, pressed buttons but still the lens was extended. Finally, just as I was going to bed, I pressed the button again and the lens retracted. Wow! I switched it back on and it seemed to be working correctly so I 'took a photograph'. That last in inverted commas because there was no memory card in the camera and no warning that there wasn't one. I went to bed.
Thursday morning I plugged the camera into the computer to see if the photograph had been stored somewhere mysterious. No it hadn't, so I put the memory card into the camera and took more pictures and Yay! Images had been stored on the card and were retrievable, so I took the camera with me when I went out.
