All the world's a stage

This is the Globe Theatre in London , which is close to the site of the original Shakespearean theatre of the 1600s. Built in 1599 and destroyed by fire in 1613, then rebuilt in 1614 until closed by the Puritans in 1642, the project to revive was the baby of Sam Wanamaker. It opened in 1997 as a faithful reproduction of the original Tudor building, with an open roof, banked wooden seating and standing room in the pit for "groundlings". We paid for cushions. We saw the Scottish play with Tara Fitzgerald and Ray Fearon. It was excellent. Emotionally draining!
