Heading for the Highlands
We managed to get away on our trip to Scotland by 10am with the sun shining and the roads reasonably empty. We sailed through the junction of the motorways to the north of Birmingham and made our first stop on the edge of the Lake District at Tebay services, which is always a preferred place to take a break from the road.
We took our flask and a blanket to sit beside the pond with the ducks and children, sat in the sun and looked west towards the foothills of the lakes. My camera came too and whilst lying on the ground I couldn’t resist grabbing a picture of the neighbouring couple enjoying a similar respite. It was peaceful and restorative and before long we headed on up the road again, as we needed to get to the north of Sterling.
We were staying with Alison, a former school friend of Helena who hadn’t met in decades. we were welcomed at her farmhouse on a hillside overlooking the countryside which was still bathed in summery light.
