Ronnie helping me out with last minute blip ...
Was over at Queen Street Mill today to introduce our two free screenings of the 1916 Battle of the Somme silent film. It is almost 100 years since people in Burnley and Nelson first saw this film (28-30 August 1916) ... just a week after it went on general release
Even though Burnley FC were at home today we screened this powerful, extraordinary film to (another) 50 visitors. Had good conversations and a generous visitor kindly gave us a programme from the 1 July commemoration event on the Somme. It must have been such a moving day. Understatement ??!!! Circulating the digitally remastered film is an excellent way of commemorating this centenary ... so big thanks to the Imperial War Museum and World War 1 Centenary Partnership.
With all those powerful images of exhausted soldiers - British and German - I was completely distracted and forgot to capture a Queen Street blip! So thank you Ronnie for half crawling onto my lap and looking so very cute, after supper, trying to get to grips with Taekwondo...
