The end
... of the summer cultural events. Last night (Friday, I'm backblipping again) we had a showing of the second part of Le Midi Viticole, a documentary made by local film-maker Yannick Séguier. This part covered events from the end of the First World War to the dreadful riot at Montredon in 1976, when demonstrators turned up armed with hunting rifles, and a riot policeman and a bystander were killed. Still a vivid and painful memory to anyone here over 50, their deaths are commemorated with a ceremony every year. Few of the major players are still alive, but Yannick used photos, "drama documentary", and interviews with a couple of eye-witnesses to convey the emotion of the event.
Today, Saturday, was supposed to be the Journée des Peintres, the replacement for my photo competition, deemed insufficiently successful; artists would spend the day painting in the streets. However it turned out to be the Journée du Peintre, because precisely one artist showed up. I felt a brief blip of schadenfreude, but it was a shame because the committee of the village social club have worked really hard all summer to create a festive atmosphere. The painter nobly stayed all day, despite the slightly inclement weather conditions, and quite a few people came and chatted to him. Plus he got fed in the evening.
I skipped the apero/meal on the square because I had to go to the station to fetch S. Hurrah! Despite being in relatively good shape, he had dinner and then went to bed (well, he did get up at 5:30 a.m. and then walked in great haste in order not to miss the train at 2 o'clock). I went off to the final concert of the season, held in the village hall because of the wind and general chill factor. It was billed as "poetically engaged songs", but it was a bit meh. Samey, and Najib seemed to be not very good at tuning his guitar. Abdalatef Bouzbiba, playing an instrument I have forgotten the name of, was good though (blip). Extra: the photo S liked best, my routine "testing the exposure before the performance" one! Adding it to please him.
Thanks everyone for the many comments, stars and hearts on my 1500th blip, which actually made it to the first page of popular! I will try to get around to everyone's journals, but it will take a while.
