Arbroath Seafest

Arbroath Sea Fest is an annual festival of the Sea held along Arbroath's seafront and centring around the town's harbour and marina. A popular celebration of Arbroath's maritime heritage, it attracts over 30,000 visitors over two days during August each year.

MOH and I travelled to Arbroath this morning and spent the day with No. 2 son and his wife and his in-laws C and D. The weather was kind and we enjoyed a super day.

I could have blipped the sign in the portaloo stating 'no more than 7 persons allowed at any one time' (?), the array of colourful yachts in the marina, the owl in the bird of prey display, the stall selling fresh smokies hanging over the charcoal fire, the sailing boat Reaper, Left hand, Right hand enjoying the swings in the kiddies playground ......... but when it came down to it there was no choice to be made .......

The launch of the Arbroath Lifeboat carrying out a demonstration rescue in the inner harbour area.

Arbroath has had a lifeboat for over 200 years, since 1803 and the lifeboat station was one of the first established in Scotland.

The present Arbroath lifeboat, 'Inchcape' is named after the infamous reef on which the Bellrock lighthouse stands and where many ships and lives have met an untimely end. A Mersey class boat, she has been in service since August 1993 and has a range of 140 nautical miles and a top speed of 17 knots provided by two 285 horse power turbo-diesel engines. She weighs 16 tons and has a crew of 6 at any one time.

This blip shows 4 of the 29 brave volunteers who cutrrently serve on Inchcape.

I salute these brave men for the danger they place themselves in in the pursuit of rescue on the seas.
