At the Book Festival
First visit to the Book Festival in Charlotte Square. It's always a delight to be there, far away from the mêlée of the world outside. T and I did three events today, all enjoyable; the first was the great great grandson of James Hogg, the writer. The speaker had followed in the steps of his ancestor who had walked amazing distances mostly in search of a new farm; then there were two speakers (both medical) on the scientific basis of compassion; and lastly Decca Aitkenhead on her book about the death by drowning of her partner. She had amazing courage to tackle such an emotional subject so publicly. We had enough time between events to visit the café and do some people-watching.
