Coastal Skiffs

It was Crail Lifeboat Gala Day today, where the village rallies round to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The most recent rescue by Anstruther Lifeboat was earlier this week, and the wreckage of the craft from which the two unfortunate sailors were pulled at 1 am on Wednesday lies in sight of the Crail coastline at Sauchope Links Caravan Park.

I've created a collage of the coastal skiffs from Anstruther, Crail and Pittenweem. These three East Neuk Villages have worked hard to build a community effort around building the boats and getting them ready to race. The St Ayles boat from Anstruther was the first one completed, and the team has been rowing together for about 3 years now. The Crail boat has been completed this year. It is named Partan after the brown crabs found in this area.

Despite the rest of the country being glued to the television to watch Andy Murray win his gold medal at the Olympic Tennis, there was a good turnout at Crail Harbour to cheer on our skiff rowers and contribute to the good cause of the RNLI.
