red tommy-toes

Inspired by Poppy’s fine crop of tomatoes yesterday, I decided to blip ours.

it’s red tommy-toes for the gentry
and bloaters for the likes of you

(John Tams and Keith Dewhurst)

This song reflects a time when tomatoes were too expensive for ‘the poor’ - bloaters (smoked herring - whole, not split like a kipper) - were considerably cheaper.

Our crop is also expensive on account of its scarcity value.
