Bucket List One
I'm not certain if everyone has a Bucket List, I do.
Although living in Cornwall for almost twenty-five years I had never gotten around to visiting the Lost Gardens Of Heligan. A recent talk from one of our RNA members reignited my interest and that's where we decided to spend the day.
After the obligatory cooked breakfast it was off to the Roseland via the King Harry ferry. Wary of holiday makers hurtling around narrow, unfamiliar roads we made our way to the gardens, loads of fun on the drive with Gussie's head permanently out of the window.
The Gardens were everything I thought they would be and more. I don't think we missed much of them. The time flew by and before we knew it we had been there over five hours.
The garden is well known for its artwork, the 'Giant', the 'Mud Maid', the 'Willow Maid' etc but the gardens themselves are astonishing. Using the same materials and methods they are being restored to their 1890's hey day. Particularly poignant is the 'Thunderbox Room', the gardeners toilet where they recorded their names in 1914 before leaving for war, the majority did not return.
Off next to Caerhys Beach to finish our picnic lunch and let Gussie have another run out before a brief stop at Porthscatho to admire an outstanding view.
Home again via the King Harry ferry for a dinner of pizza before falling gratefully into bed.
