Eilean Donan

One of the most iconic castles in Scotland. You can see why; its position on the loch and the surrounding landscape makes it incredibly picturesque. I didn't know until today that the castle was rebuilt in the early 20th century, however, and when you get inside you can tell. I wouldn't want visitors to the castle to think this is a typical example of Scottish castles.

We had a lovely day walking around the Lochalsh Woodland Gardens in the morning, then towards the end of our walk sprinting back to the car when there was a sudden downpour! The weather did brighten up by the time we made it to the castle, however. We had some interesting and very delicious hot chocolates at a café with a view of Eilean Donan afterwards.
