The Hub
Designed by Pugin, this is the Gothic spire of what is now The Hub, centre for the Edinburgh International Festival, but previously a church. Suitable for this week's challenge theme 'CHURCHES'. Seen from the courtyard of the equally gothic Assembly on the Mound, itself a church building.
There are numerous amazing church buildings in the centre of Edinburgh, some of which I photographed today. The extra is St Augustine's , also now a festival venue. Can you spot the stone carved owl high up on the spire? Presumably designed to be a scarer. I only know about it due to solving a photographic puzzle recently, which involved identifying numerous statues and sculptures around the town. Exceedingly difficult.
