Not his cup of chi
Pepe was not particularly impressed with Simon Brown's Feng Shui Bible.
Or rather he was too much.
We feared for his health as he roared with laughter and had tears streaming down his face, making it hard for him to read the definitive guide to improving your life, home, health and finances.
One of his favourite passages was the one about candles.
"Candles change your mood in two ways. First, they radiate fiery chi into the atmosphere. This is done powerfully, as the fire chi is transported primarily by the light and to a lesser extent by the heat. Second, seeing the wax liquefying, transforming to a gas and combusting is a hypnotic sight. [chuckle]
Here are some ideas for using candles throughout your home. The candles must be lit in order to have any effect [hooting with laughter], but make sure that you do not leaving [sic] them burning when you are not in the room [sick with laughter]"
Pepe really was weak with laughter, reading some of the passages aloud.
He then started inserting his own home-spun bit of nonsense or unnecessary advice, and we found it hard to separate Simon's drivel from Pepe's caustic additions.
Rarely had so much fun been had for 1 Euro (the hefty price tag of this marvel in the secondhand bookshop).
Simon Brown would be proud. He improved our lives, finances and well-being. But I was at times worried for Pepe's health...
